This
'Fishing Forecast' was posted March 29th, 2010.
It pretty much says it all for the next
3 months of fishing.
Whew, what a nasty winter and spring we had here!
With the huge fish kill due to the extreme cold,
and ugly frigid north winds constantly, I am really
glad it is over. Talk about tough fishing conditions,
the first three months of 2010 took the cake.
Even with the difficult conditions, I managed
to find and actually catch a fair number fish
for my customers each fishing trip, even though
I did have to run much further to get the bites
some days.
On
to the warmer months forecast in a nutshell!...
I'm
going to pretty much lump these months all together,
as historically they will pretty much be the same
after mid-April, and hopefully pretty redundant
as to what I'm catching ever week from here on
out through the end of June. 'Think Big
Tarpon' is the mind set for the next
three months be it either with a fly rod or bait.
For fly fishing you want to fish during the day,
and for bait fishing you want to fish for them
either early in the morning, or an early evening
trip. Bonefish and Permit
will be around when the water warms up, and they
are best sought after during the daytime hours.
These
three fish are what most people think the late
spring and summer is all about, however the backcountry
fishing remains good until the water gets extremely
warm in the months normally. With this winter,
it looks like our backcountry fishing will be
good for a long time to come!
Look
for Redfish, Spanish
Mackerel, Seatrout,
Ladyfish, Jacks,
Tripletail, and BIG Sharks
all the way through June this year. I use really
light tackle, and the fish I mentioned above can
be a real blast on the light rods and reels! There
is also the added bonus of taking some fish to
have for dinner when you get off the boat.
There
will many types of fish to fish for in many ways
in the upcoming months. All are fun, and the skill
level varies from being an expert fisherman, to
just a normal guy wanting to wet a line and have
fun catching many fish, or a huge one on light
tackle.
